Philosophy of Education

Philosophy of education “A framework for thinking about educational issues, and a guide from professional practice,” (Introduction to Teaching page 513). Developing a philosophy of education is important o understand and become familiar with because it will be the basis of how you teach and which types of teacher you become. There are four main types of philosophy of education all which concentrate on teaching students certain criteria and curricula. Essentialism, “An educational philosophy suggesting that specific knowledge and skill exist that all people should possess…the purpose of schooling is to advance society by providing a curriculum that includes skills needed to function effectively in todays world, and teachers should play a central role in directing classes to help students acquire these skills,” (Introduction to Teaching page 155).

Education in the world is the main source of how each person becomes developed. Teachers need to be able to teach a modern advanced education as well give students a well rounded curriculum that concentrates on todays issues and yesterdays histories. It is very important for each student to know how our country came to and it is also, almost more if not equal, important to teach students about the issues of today that will soon become a very important part of our history. Education today sometimes comes across as boring to students because they are learning about past events that they cant seem to wrap their minds around. There are many issues that present in our time of today that aren't even discussed in some areas of education. American schools have been made of for years because others say we are behind and we are too basic, not giving our students the better of education. To address these problems we need to be able to intermix the past with the present, to teach advanced technology as well as hands on Real life exposures and experiences.

A student needs to be well rounded in all aspects of themselves, we need help build well informed, physically, emotionally and intellectual, secure, confident adapted individuals. I believe this is all possible with the way lessons and education is taught. Each student needs to grow to their full capacity of knowledge and the students that seem to struggle in certain areas need to be taken aside and be given the one on one attention and proper explaining. I plan to teach in a manner that students will be well informed about history and the issues of today. Students that may struggle with keeping up and progressing to their full ability I will take the time to meet with these students and find out what it is they need to succeed and become strong leaders of our country. Our children are our future and education needs to be made more clear because it is far beyond basic.

The technology we can offer to each student is beyond amazing and we need to teach students how to be comfortable with the technology that our country can offer. Not only do we need to teach them to fully understand technology and it haste offer but also teach them to go above and beyond, lead them to create and design new technology. I also believe in teaching students multiple languages, students need to be able to communicate with the world. Making it a requirement to be fluent in another language will help to give them an opportunity to be world ambassadors and also give them the security that they can handle and understand foreign policies. Students need advanced math skills to keep up with students from foreign countries that are far more advanced in areas such as math, language and science. We need to help these students believe that they can become the worlds next great scientist. By giving students an advance education dealing with modern issues we can teach them to find cures and create medicines that help benefit the lives in our country.

Teachers and students need to develop trusting relationships, teachers need to be able to rely on students to do the best they can and students need to rely on teacher to provide to the best education they can. Teachers need to look at students as an individual instead of group, each student will have an area or two they are well advanced in and teachers need to be able to recognize and care about that student and help them develop themselves. An open line of communication and genuine care from a teacher will help students be able to trust in others and even themselves more. With well developed student and teacher relationships better feed back and discussions are made easier. I believe I will be a teacher that is able to reach out and help each student for the better. I believe that each student has the ability to have a complete understanding of themselves and our world. Education is one of the most important things in a students life, from the time they are three to the time they are twenty-five, which means education shouldn't be basic, it needs to be broadened and intertwined with everyday activities and lessons. There are so many creative and interesting ways to teach students and teachers need to bring education to life.

Education is key and teachers need to be able to value they're teaching and lessons. I believe a firm education can be taught to each student. The learning environment needs to be, “High structure; strong focus on essential knowledge and skills,” (page 161). Teachers and students need to both understand, “That important knowledge exist that all professionals should master and understand,” (Introduction to Teaching page 156). As a future teacher I believe that teachers need to master their own knowledge and be the best teacher they can be in order for the students they will be teaching to master their own education and be the best students they can be. Every teacher needs to have confidence and security in the areas they will be teaching in order to help develop well rounded confident, secure world leaders.
